Editorial Policy

The short version

Every guide on Diamondtaire is written and edited in-house against a fixed set of rules: no invented figures, no valuations, no investment advice, and no hidden commercial influence. Where a question needs a professional who can examine the actual stone, we say so rather than guessing. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will correct it in public.

Who writes this site

Diamondtaire is written and edited in-house. We do not buy syndicated articles, we do not republish content from other sites, and we do not run guest posts placed for links.

We are researchers and enthusiastic buyers, not gemmologists, valuers, appraisers or financial advisers, and we do not present ourselves as any of those things. That limit is the reason for most of the rules below.

The rules every article is held to

1. No invented figures

We do not publish a statistic, percentage, price range or “research shows” claim unless it is genuinely sourced and checked. Where we cannot verify a number, we describe the pattern in words instead. We would rather write that platinum generally costs more than white gold for the same design than manufacture a percentage that looks authoritative and means nothing.

2. No valuations and no authentication

We cannot tell you what your stone is worth or whether it is what the seller says it is. Nobody can do either from a description, a photograph or an article. We explain what the grading and testing processes actually measure, and we hand every specific judgement to a qualified gemmologist or an independent laboratory report you verify yourself.

3. No investment or tax advice

We do not present diamonds or jewellery as an investment class, publish expected returns, or compare them to financial instruments. Tax treatment of collectables differs by country and changes; we do not state it. Where resale comes up we describe how the market actually behaves for ordinary sellers, including the parts that are unflattering.

4. Prices date, so we avoid them

A specific price written today is wrong within months, and it is wrong in a different currency immediately. We describe the shape of a comparison rather than quoting figures, and we tell you to have your jeweller quote the same specification in both options on the day.

5. No endorsements and no adverse claims about named businesses

We do not publish lists of “trusted” or “risky” named retailers. We have not audited those businesses, an endorsement we cannot support is worthless to you, and an adverse claim we cannot support is unfair to them. We explain what to check for yourself instead, which works with any seller anywhere.

6. Written for readers everywhere

Our readers are worldwide. We avoid framing that assumes one country’s customs, currency, hallmarking system or consumer law, and where something genuinely varies by region we say so rather than describing one market as if it were universal.

7. Commercial content is separated and disclosed

This site carries advertising and may carry affiliate links. Neither ever influences a recommendation or a conclusion, and no advertiser sees an article before it is published. Any commercial relationship is disclosed. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the detail.

How we handle mistakes

Corrections are made on the page itself rather than quietly deleted. If a claim turns out to be unsupported, it comes out and the article is republished without it, even where that leaves the piece shorter and less confident than it was. We would rather publish less than publish something we cannot stand behind.

If you find an error, use the contact page and tell us what is wrong and where. We would rather hear it from you than leave it up.

What this site is not

It is not a valuation service, an appraisal service, a laboratory, a shop, or a substitute for an independent professional looking at the item in front of you. For anything where real money or a real decision turns on the answer, get a report from an independent laboratory and advice from someone qualified who can examine the piece.
